Part of Chesterfield's living tradition
Who we are
Cock and Magpie is a mixed Morris side based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, a town best known for the 'crooked spire' on its church. Our name is taken from the two birds supporting the shield on Chesterfield's coat of arms.
Our dances are based on the Cotswold (Oxfordshire) and Welsh Border Morris traditions, though we have developed our own Chesterfield style for the Cotswold dances.
In the summer, you can find us performing on Monday evenings at various local pubs, and entertaining the crowds on weekends at fetes and fairs around Chesterfield. We also dance at some well dressings in the Peak District. So if you'd like to come and watch us dance, please contact us to find out where we'll be.
And if you like what you see - remember, we are always happy to welcome new dancers and musicians, male or female (but you must be over 18).
